Our final day on board P&O’s Iona was a sea day, so we were able to get full use of the ship, here's everything we got up to.
An Early Start
Despite a late night, we were up at 6am to film parts of our ship tour (coming soon to our YouTube channel!). To our surprise, quite a few passengers were already out and about enjoying the quiet morning.
On our way to breakfast, we found another cruising duck, which we took and later re hid for someone else to find. Breakfast in The Quays was great as always, Laura enjoyed waffles and Lizzy had an omelette. We’ve found that arriving at The Quays around 8am is ideal, as it’s quiet and easy to grab a table before it gets busier later on.
Enjoying The SkyDome
After breakfast, we snuck in a quick nap to recover from the early start. Once refreshed, we found our parents in the SkyDome, where we enjoyed drinks and played cards to try to finish off our tournament.
We then grabbed a lunch again from Taste 360, this time we put together a plate of snacks and shared.
A Foggy Afternoon
The worst task of the cruise, packing, was waiting for us, but before that, we stopped by the duty free shop to collect the items we'd purchased on an earlier day. The process was smooth, though there was a short queue when we arrived. After dropping off the heavy bottles in our cabin, we continued to explore the ship.
By afternoon, fog had rolled in, and we could hear the ship’s foghorn sounding. We popped by our parents’ balcony to enjoy the misty views.
Evening Entertainment
We started the evening with the acrobatic show Triboo in the SkyDome. We have seen this show a couple of times before, but the incredible skills on display never fail to impress.
Next, we visited The Glass House for a final glass of wine and joined the virtual queue for the Opal Restaurant. Dinner there was great and we loved this smaller dining room. Laura really enjoyed the sweet and sour chicken, while Lizzy thought her wild mushroom risotto was good too and our Mom's surf and turf was also a great dish.
After Dinner
After dinner, we squeezed in one last visit to Brodie’s to wrap up the card tournament (Mum and Dad won by a landslide). We ended the night with a quick visit to the late night buffet. The selection wasn’t great and included an interesting looking hard boiled egg curry.
Smooth Disembarkation
The next morning, we were up bright and early, out of our cabin by 7.45 am, and headed to the main dining room for breakfast. Despite a slight delay in service, it worked out perfectly with our disembarkation time.
Disembarkation itself was seamless, there were no queues or delays, just a quick scan of our cruise card at the gangway and an easy luggage collection in the terminal. We were soon on our coach for the journey home, which, thankfully, was much smoother than the trip to Southampton.
Final Thoughts
Our last day on Iona was relaxing and enjoyable, and the disembarkation process was one of the smoothest we’ve experienced. A perfect end to a fantastic cruise!
