In October 2024, we joined Cunard's Queen Anne for a 7-night Atlantic Coast and Iberia cruise. Today was day three of our voyage, and we docked in the beautiful Spanish port of Vigo.

An Unexpected Wake Up Call

Our morning started a little earlier than planned with a knock at our door despite the 'Do Not Disturb' sign. We were both very confused and when we got to the door discovered it was someone else's room service order. This was quickly taken away and we closed our eyes again briefly before getting ready for the day.

Once we were up, we headed to the Artisans’ Food Hall for breakfast. We both went for sausage baps with hash browns and mushrooms, everything was hot, fresh, and really tasty.

A Day in Vigo

We’d convinced ourselves we’d never been to Vigo before, but the moment we stepped off the ship we realised we had back in 2022 on a wet and miserable day. This time, the weather was much better, it was sunny and warm, and perfect for exploring.

We walked along the harbour and decided to hike up to the fort. It’s a steep climb with a lot of steps and on a hot day, it was a bit of a challenge. The views from the top made it worth it though, especially looking back at Queen Anne in the harbour. After our mountain climbing, we treated ourselves to a cold drink in the sunshine. It was lovely to sit outside in October, soak up the sun and watch the world go by.

Before heading back to the ship there was one last part of Vigo that we wanted to see, the famous escalators. We took a couple upwards, just for fun, before walking back down and along the front to the ship with very tired feet.

Back Onboard Queen Anne

Back onboard, we tried the Pavilion Grill for lunch. Laura had a buffalo chicken burger and Lizzy went for the Alpine burger with Cajun fries. Both were freshly cooked and well worth the short wait.

We grabbed drinks with Ross and Dean at the Panorama Pool and ordered strawberry daiquiris which weren't on the menu, but this was no problem for the bar staff!. There was also a DJ set with the ship’s saxophonist.

Dinner at Aranya

Tonight’s dinner was at Aranya, Queen Anne’s Indian inspired specialty restaurant ($35 per person). While the service was great, the food was a bit hit and miss. Some dishes lacked spice and flavour, and we particularly weren’t huge fans of the dhal which was bland. The mango ice lolly palette cleanser was surprisingly one of the highlights.

A Fun Evening

We booked ahead to see Noir in the Bright Lights Society which is a murder mystery-style immersive show with audience interaction. It was clever, funny, and the cast were brilliant. We highly recommend booking early if you want to see it!

After Noir, we caught the end of Jenny Williams' performance in the theatre, she has an incredible voice. We then headed to the Cunard staple, the Commodore Club for a nightcap and live piano music from Lyn Lawrence, who is amazing. We ended the evening back at Bright Lights Society for one last drink.

A Brilliant Day

We were pleasantly surprised by Vigo with lovely weather, great views, and lots to explore. Back onboard, there were a few mixed opinions on dinner but the entertainment more than made up for it.

You can see what we got up to in more detail over on our YouTube channel.
