Our first full day onboard Queen Anne was a sea day, and we took the chance to relax, explore, and enjoy of very first Cunard Gala Night.
Breakfast at the Artisans Food Hall
We surprised ourselves by waking up in time for breakfast and headed up to The Artisans’ Food Hall. This is Queen Anne's answer to a buffet and isn't at all traditional. There are different food stations, each with a theme. Laura had a sausage bap, while Lizzy chose an omelette with toast, they are both items we probably would have chosen in a normal buffet, but the quality was great and it was lovely to have them freshly made.
Exploring the Ship
After a quick walk on the open deck, we caught up with Tom and Dom (Tom and Dom Travel) over drinks at the Corinthia Lounge. Then we browsed the shops, which is a favourite sea day activity and bought some fridge magnets and a Cunard teddy bear to add to the collection.
Lunch at Sir Samuel’s
On embarkation day we’d booked lunch at Queen Anne's steakhouse, Sir Samuel’s, which offers a smaller menu at lunch time for a lower price. Laura had clam chowder and dover sole, while Lizzy had the caesar salad and steak. We shared some sides and Laura finished with a very good trifle. Lunch cost $35 each and we felt it was well worth it.
After we'd eaten we headed to the Commodore Club to relax and enjoy the view. We were super lucky that we spotted a whale. We've never had much luck spotting wildlife at sea so we were very excited!
Gala Night Cunard Style
We got ready for Gala Night and met friends again in the Commodore Club for pre-dinner drinks. The ship looked fantastic and everyone had really dressed up, which added to the atmosphere.
When we headed down to dinner we were disappointed to see that there was a long queue once again and some confusion with our table which we thought we had pre-booked the night before.. It took a while for service to settle, but once it did, the meal improved. The food was nice, but portions were a little on the small side once again.
After dinner, we enjoyed music and dancing in the Queen’s Room which is a Cunard staple, we then caught a string trio in the lobby, which added to the Gala Night ambience. We ended the night in Bright Lights Society with a fun late night disco before heading to bed around 1:30am.
Final Thoughts
It was a lovely sea day with plenty to enjoy from spotting a whale to dressing up for Gala Night. Dinner was a bit disorganised, but overall, it was a brilliant day onboard.
